Music Cafe • More grit and power?

I'm currently in creative hiatus. Main reason is that I find my music too "soft" and "melancholic". I feel it's mainly due to sounds and mixing, ie production. Not so much on the noteheads. I've tried to use amps, distortions, overdrive and upping the tempo.

Do you have any good advice, how to create more power/force/guts in the mixes?
